At the beginning of this month, Gentoo Linux’s website underwent a stunning transformation that immediately caught my eye. It was the perfect catalyst for me to start anew, but I was unsure of where to start. As a long-time user of KDE, I had been waiting for Plasma 5 to become stable on Gentoo before making any changes. However, almost a year later, there was still work to be done. Fueled by determination, I couldn’t hold off any longer and started making excuses to push myself.

At first, I thought I could just tough it out and install Plasma 5 using alternative methods. But then, the release of GNOME 3.16 last month got me thinking. Could this be my chance to rediscover GNOME after four years of only brief encounters?

And so I took the plunge and haven’t looked back since. In this article, I’ll share my experiences with GNOME 3.14 and systemd, and how they compare to my longtime favorites, Gentoo and KDE. Join me as I share the highs and lows of my journey with these powerful tools. Read on to learn more!
